چکیده

Problem definition: Unexpected failures of equipment can have severe consequences and costs. Such unexpected be prevented by performing preventive replacement based on real-time degradation data. We study a component that degrades according to compound Poisson process fails when the exceeds failure threshold. An online sensor measures in real time, but interventions are only possible during planned downtime. Academic/practical relevance: characterize optimal policy integrates learning from sensor. demonstrate effectiveness practice with case interventional x-ray machines. The data set this is available companion. As such, it serve as benchmark for future studies stochastically deteriorating systems. Methodology: parameters vary one next cannot observed directly; population heterogeneous. These must therefore inferred observing signal. model situation partially observable Markov decision (POMDP) so making integrated. collapse information state space POMDP three dimensions policies analyzed computed tractably. Results: dependent control limit. limit increases age may decrease result other Numerical analyses reveal integration leads cost reductions 10.50% relative approaches do not learn signal 4.28% separate making. Managerial implications: Real-time reduce maintenance unplanned downtime considerable amount. tractably industrial systems our collapse. Smog, Cognition and Real-World Decision-Making

Cognitive functioning is critical as in our daily life a host of real-world complex decisions in high-stakes markets have to be made. The decision-making process can be vulnerable to environmental stressors. Summarizing the growing economic and epidemiologic evidence linking air pollution, cognition performance and real-world decision-making, we first illustrate key physiological and psychologi...

Real-Time Decision Making for Large POMDPs

In this paper, we introduce an approach called RTBSS (RealTime Belief Space Search) for real-time decision making in large POMDPs. The approach is based on a look-ahead search that is applied online each time the agent has to make a decision. RTBSS is particularly interesting for large real-time environments where offline solutions are not applicable because of their complexity.

Ensemble Framework for Real-time Decision Making

This paper introduces a new framework for realtime decision making in video games. An Ensemble agent is a compound agent composed of multiple agents, each with its own tasks or goals to achieve. Usually when dealing with real-time decision making, reactive agents are used; that is agents that return a decision based on the current state. While reactive agents are very fast, most games require m...

Decision Support for Real-Time, Dynamic Decision-Making Tasks

By deWnition, dynamic decision making dictates that multiple and interrelated decisions be made in a continuously changing environment. Such decision making is diYcult and often taxes individuals’ cognitive resources. Here I investigated ways in which to support decision making in these environments. I evaluated three forms of decision support: outcome feedback, cognitive feedback, and feedforw...
